God’s Country Community Ministries Mission Trip Follow-up

For the past four years Chelsea First has been traveling to God’s Country Community Ministry (GCCM) in Newberry Michigan located in the upper peninsula.  Each year is an experience working on an assortment of jobs in support of the community. 

God’s Country is a certified Volunteers In Mission (VIM) site of the United Methodist Church and is a supported partner of this congregation.  Chelsea First not only supports this valuable ministry with participation but also with financial support as an ADVANCE #3020435  location and missionary ministry of Global Ministries.  

As a group we ate well. We enjoyed an evening out eating some ice cream and had a short time of worship on the last evening. We all had the privilege of enjoying the humor of Jeff Melvin. We also did some work!  This year our team worked to rebuild a roof on an older home. This was a major job. 

We were the fifth team and completed the construction.  We replaced a large picture window on a house in Paradise Michigan that had rotted away due to the water and snow coming off of Lake Superior. Our team removed an old tub and replaced it with a new shower surround that can be easily accessed by the homeowner.  We assisted in the free store engaging with the community and emptied a storage unit with items being donated to World Medical Outreach.

GCCM serves two of the poorest counties in Michigan.  Their presence in this area is so needed.  Thank you Chelsea First for your ongoing support of this important ministry.

Missions Committee: Making a Difference Locally and Beyond

At Chelsea First, we are dedicated to embodying Christ’s call to love and serve others through impactful mission work. Our Missions Committee supports projects that make a lasting difference both locally and regionally, with a commitment to justice, inclusivity, and compassion. We partner with organizations such as Cass Community Services, Habitat for Humanity, and God’s Country Community Ministry, as well as international efforts through the United Methodist Advance.

Each year, we collaborate with groups like CROP Walk, Faith In Action, and Fair Trade Coffee to address urgent needs and uplift communities. We also support local ministries, missionaries, and various entities through financial contributions.
