World Communion Sunday: Welcoming Our Neighbors

On Sunday, October 4, Christians around the world will gather at Christ’s table in celebration of World Communion Sunday. At Chelsea First, we’ll mark this special Sunday with a focus on immigration justice and what our faith calls us to consider about welcoming and loving our neighbors.

We are pleased to welcome Rev. Dr. Jill Zundel as our guest preacher at both the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary worship services. Rev. Jill is a retired United Methodist elder and currently chairs the Michigan Conference Immigration Justice Task Force. Throughout her ministry, she has been deeply engaged in ministries of justice, welcome, and community.

As part of the morning, you’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about the immigration process in the United States. An interactive display will feature sample questions from the U.S. civics test required as part of the naturalization process. Stop by and see how many you can answer!

Yard signs proclaiming “We stand for ALL our neighbors” will also be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting assistance for immigrants in our area.

World Communion Sunday reminds us that Christ’s table reaches far beyond the walls of any one congregation, community, or nation. We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful day of worship, reflection, and communion.
