“John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. While he was coming up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven splitting open and the Spirit, like a dover, coming down on him. And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness”

The moment of Jesus’ baptism, when a dove descends and a voice calls Jesus a beloved son, marks the beginning of his earthly ministry of teaching, healing and sharing God’s love to all. As we explore Jesus’ baptism, we are reminded that as followers of Jesus Christ, baptism is not so much about who we are but who God is. God claims all of us as beloved children. We receive and accept the unconditional love of God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
