Becoming Purveyors of Awe Through Self-Giving: A Special Collection for Faith In Action

As we continue our worship series Purveyors of Awe, we turn our hearts toward Self-Giving on Sunday, November 16—a spiritual practice that lifts up the beauty of compassion, courage, and care for others. Research shows that when we witness moral beauty—acts of generosity, resilience, and kindness—we’re inspired to live more generously ourselves.

That’s why, on this day focused on Self-Giving, we’re inviting you to bring food and hygiene items for our neighbors in need. Faith In Action, our local partner, provides essential support to alleviate hunger and poverty in our communities. With the ongoing government shutdown and the recent uncertainty of SNAP benefits for many families, this is a critical time to act with compassion.

As Adam Hoffman writes in How Awe Makes Us Generous:

“When we are awed by acts of moral beauty, we feel moved—literally moved—to give of ourselves.”

Let’s come together to meet the moment with grace.

How You Can Help
Bring non-perishable food items or hygiene products to worship on Sunday, November 16.  Look for the big blue bin in the gathering space.

Whether you’re able to bring a single can or a full bag of groceries, your gift will go directly to support our neighbors through Faith In Action’s Chelsea and Dexter centers.

Let’s fill the bin—and fill the world—with a little more awe.
