In his book, Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time, Biblical scholar, teacher, and theologian Marcus J Borg invites us to deepen and expand our understanding of who Jesus was in his time, and who he can be for us, today. As a member of the Jesus Seminar and public theologian, Borg was asked to speak about Jesus to a religious group, and to “make it personal”.
This short, clearly written book is the result of his reflection, moving from who Jesus was in his historical context (a spirit person, wisdom teacher, social prophet and movement founder), and who Jesus became over several centuries in the developing Christian tradition (Son of God, Savior, fully human/fully divine, Prince of Peace, Shepherd…). What results is a fresh, compelling picture of Jesus that has powerful implications for our contemporary faith.
