Missions Opportunity with God’s Country Cooperative Parish
Chelsea First recently had an opportunity to serve on a mission trip to God’s Country Cooperative Parish. Nine of us attended and had a wonderful experience. For some, the timing was bad and you were unable to attend. There is another opportunity for you to go! Rev. Rodney along with members of Livonia Newburg United Methodist would like to invite you to join them, leaving after lunch on August 28 and returning on the morning of Thursday, September 1 right before Labor Day weekend. The cost for food, lodging and materials is $200 a person to attend. Financial assistance is available if needed. Please contact Rev. Rodney at the church office, 734-475-8119, if you are interested in attending. ~ Rev Rodney Gasaway

Lectio Divina Scripture Study to be Offered
Chelsea UMC is invited to participate in Lectio Divina with Newburg UMC, led by Dr. Frank
Dunbar. Lectio Divina is a Latin phrase meaning Divine Listening. The practice is a simple
spiritual discipline that allows one to have a deep encounter with scripture. The first session will be on Tuesday, September 6 at 1:00 pm. The study should last 45 minutes or so, but it’s a rewarding time! The study will continue on Tuesdays. The sign-up will only have 1 day listed but the same link can be used continuously.
The class meets in a hybrid format with live participants, safely spread out, and an online Zoom group as well. In that way, both groups, online and on-site, can participate together. The only requirement of the class is to have your Bible with you, or accessible. In Lectio Divina, after everyone is settled in, the same scripture passage is read four times. After each reading, the leader invites you to respond to the passage:
● Be attentive to a word or phrase that catches your attention
● Pay attention to the feelings the passage evokes
● Seek to find an image, thought or memory that rises in response to the passage
● Focus on how God is speaking to you through the passage
Participants are asked to share these thoughts, but no one is required to share. That said, the easy, spiritual style of this study, where responses to the scripture are prayerfully held and considered, is quite special.
Newburg is looking forward to sharing their experience of Lectio Divina with the Chelsea UMC congregation as a way of sharing in God’s love. If you are interested in participating in Lectio Divina, please let Rev. Gasaway know by registering at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c48ada629a57-lectio. Information or a link will be sent to you.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training
In-person training on the “QPR” approach to suicide prevention will be offered at Chelsea First on Wednesday, Sept 7 from 6:30 to 7:30. The presenter will be Sarah Wilczynski of St Joe’s Chelsea SRSLY. QPR stands for “Question, Persuade, Refer.” We hope for a broad turnout, even among people who do not regularly interact with youth. As will be described in the upcoming sermon series of Aug 21-28, QPR can be approached as a spiritual discipline. Please participate as a way to be in solidarity with our youth, or with anyone who is experiencing mental health challenges. This program is open to anyone aged 14 or older. Contact Sarah.firstname.lastname@example.org to register. Click HERE to see the flyer.
