Social Principles Class
January 29 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Ever wonder what the United Methodist Church says about social justice issues such as race, climate
change, economic inequality, or homelessness? The Social Principles (of the United Methodist
Church, UMC) articulate our “ethical aspirations for the common good in our public policies and
personal commitments” through which we “love God with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength
and love and desire for our neighbors what we desire for ourselves.” (Matthew 22:37-40, Mark 12:30-
31)
The Social Principles urge us to make a difference and to live differently in the world, but also to build
a different kind of world than the one we have now. (from the UMC Why Do We Have Social
Principles? ).
Come dive into and discuss the UMC’s Social Principles on Sundays between services, starting
January 29. Interested? Email Cathy Fitzgerald, fitzes2@gmail.com, or Vicki Utke, vutke@aol.com.
