SUMMARY:Parenting Group
DESCRIPTION:For Parents & Caregivers \nParenting takes a village—and we’re grateful to have one! This fall\, we invite all parents and caregivers to join our Parenting Group\, a welcoming space to talk\, listen\, share\, learn\, laugh\, and support one another through the joys and challenges of parenting. \nThis fall\, we’ll explore When Kids Ask Hard Questions\, Volume 2: Faith-Filled Responses for Tough Topics\, edited by Bromleigh McCleneghan and Karen Ware Jackson. \nThis thoughtful collection brings together a variety of short essays from different voices\, offering faith-filled perspectives and practical wisdom for responding when children and teens ask difficult\, complicated\, or unexpected questions. Together\, we’ll reflect\, share our experiences\, and consider how we can create spaces where young people feel safe asking questions and exploring their faith. \nWhat makes this group especially wonderful is the community we have created together—a community grounded in trust\, care\, encouragement\, and the reminder that none of us has to do this alone. \nMondays | 6:30–7:30 PM \nFall Meeting Dates:\nSeptember 14\, 21\, 28\nOctober 5\, 12\, 26\nNovember 2\,16\, 23\, 30\nDecember 7 \n Childcare Provided! \nBring your questions\, your stories\, your successes\, your struggles—and come as you are. Childcare is provided\, so you can have this time to connect and recharge. \n Can’t Join Us In Person? \nNo problem! We’d love to have you join us from wherever you are. If you’d like to participate but can’t be physically present\, just let Susan know and we’ll make sure you receive the Zoom link. \nCome be part of our parenting village this fall! We look forward to growing\, learning\, and supporting one another along the way

SUMMARY:Souper Sunday Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Souper Sunday: Jesus Was a Migrant\nSunday\, October 4 | 5:00 p.m. | Grams Hall \nOur Souper Sunday Speaker Series returns this fall with an evening of film\, conversation\, food\, and fellowship. \nWe’ll begin with a screening of Jesus Was a Migrant\, a short documentary executive-produced by historian and author Dr. Jemar Tisby. The film travels to the U.S.-Mexico border and invites viewers to consider questions about migration\, asylum\, and what Christian faith asks of us in responding to our neighbors. \nFollowing the film\, we’ll have an opportunity for open discussion before gathering around tables for a shared meal and facilitated small-group conversation. \nSouper Sundays are designed to create space for learning\, thoughtful conversation\, and connection—even when the subjects we explore are complex. You don’t need to come with all the answers. Come ready to listen\, learn\, share a meal\, and get to know others around the table. \nA freewill offering will be received to help offset the cost of screening the film. \nAll are welcome.

SUMMARY:World Communion Sunday: Welcoming Our Neighbors
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, October 4\, Christians around the world will gather at Christ’s table in celebration of World Communion Sunday. At Chelsea First\, we’ll mark this special Sunday with a focus on immigration justice and what our faith calls us to consider about welcoming and loving our neighbors. \nWe are pleased to welcome Rev. Dr. Jill Zundel as our guest preacher at both the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary worship services. Rev. Jill is a retired United Methodist elder and currently chairs the Michigan Conference Immigration Justice Task Force. Throughout her ministry\, she has been deeply engaged in ministries of justice\, welcome\, and community. \nAs part of the morning\, you’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about the immigration process in the United States. An interactive display will feature sample questions from the U.S. civics test required as part of the naturalization process. Stop by and see how many you can answer! \nYard signs proclaiming “We stand for ALL our neighbors” will also be available for purchase\, with proceeds supporting assistance for immigrants in our area. \nWorld Communion Sunday reminds us that Christ’s table reaches far beyond the walls of any one congregation\, community\, or nation. We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful day of worship\, reflection\, and communion.

SUMMARY:With One Voice: Community Choir Concert
DESCRIPTION:With One Voice: Community Choir Concert on September 27\nThe music continues! \nFollowing the meaningful response to the recent One Voice Concert\, the community choir will once again share this beautiful music with the wider community. Chelsea Community Chorus presents “With One Voice” at the Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel Service on Sunday\, September 27 at 3:00 pm. \nThis concert is a wonderful opportunity to gather\, listen\, worship\, and be reminded of the power of music to bring people together. When voices join in song\, something sacred happens. We are reminded that we are not alone\, that our stories are connected\, and that God can use music to speak hope\, peace\, and joy into our lives. \nWe are grateful for the singers\, musicians\, organizers\, and all who continue to make these moments possible. We are also grateful for everyone who helps extend the invitation. As we saw with the recent One Voice Concert\, people show up when others personally invite them\, share the word\, and say\, “You are welcome here.” \nSo consider this your invitation — and an invitation to invite someone else. Bring a friend\, neighbor\, or family member and come experience an afternoon of music\, community\, and connection. \nChelsea Community Chorus presents “With One Voice”\nSunday\, September 27 at 3:00 pm\nChelsea Retirement Community Chapel Service

SUMMARY:God's Country Community Ministries Mission Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for a Life-Changing Mission Experience in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula\nAugust 16–20\, 2025 \nAt Chelsea First United Methodist Church\, we believe that God calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things through acts of love\, service\, and compassion. This August\, we invite you to be part of something bigger than yourself as we partner with God’s Country Community Ministries in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula for a week of mission\, relationship-building\, and meaningful service. \nWhether you’ve been on dozens of mission trips or have never picked up a hammer in your life\, there is a place for you on this team. \nServing Together\, Making a Difference\nFrom August 16–20\, volunteers from Chelsea First UMC and Newburg United Methodist Church will travel to the Upper Peninsula to assist families and communities through home repair projects\, outreach ministries\, and practical acts of care. God’s Country Community Ministries has a long history of serving neighbors in need\, helping to improve homes while sharing hope and encouragement with those they serve. \nThis mission trip is about much more than construction projects. It’s about building relationships\, growing in faith\, and experiencing God’s presence in new and powerful ways. \nAs we serve alongside one another\, we’ll discover that mission changes not only the lives of those we help—it changes us as well. \nAll Skill Levels Welcome\nOne of the most common questions we hear is\, “What if I’m not handy?” \nThe answer is simple: You are still invited! \nThere are opportunities for every skill set and every comfort level. Whether you have experience with home repairs\, enjoy working alongside others\, excel at encouraging people\, or simply have a willing heart\, there is meaningful work for you to do. \nGod doesn’t call the equipped—God equips the called. \nDon’t Let Cost Keep You from Serving\nThe cost of the trip is $350\, which includes meals\, lodging\, and volunteer mission insurance. \nWe never want finances to prevent someone from answering God’s call to serve. Scholarships are available for anyone who may need assistance with the cost of the trip. If finances are a concern\, please reach out. We would love to have a conversation and help make participation possible. \nWill You Join Us?\nMission trips often become some of the most memorable and faith-shaping experiences in a person’s life. They provide opportunities to step outside of our routines\, serve alongside fellow believers\, and witness firsthand how God is at work in the world. \nIf you’ve been looking for a way to put your faith into action\, this may be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. \nWe hope you’ll prayerfully consider joining the Chelsea First UMC mission team this August as we serve\, build relationships\, and make a difference together. \nRegister Today

SUMMARY:Recovering an "Enchanted Faith" - Book Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Recovering an “Enchanted Faith”\nBook Discussion Group\nSundays\, July 19\, July 26\, and August 2\n4:30–6:00 PM \nJune’s worship series invited us to recognize God’s creative\, hope-filled\, and renewing presence within us and throughout the world. In the busyness and demands of everyday life\, it can be difficult to pause long enough to notice wonder\, joy\, beauty\, and delight — the very gifts that often came so naturally to us as children. \nThis summer\, you are invited to continue that exploration through a three-week book discussion of Richard Beck’s Hunting Magic Eels: Recovering an Enchanted Faith in a Skeptical Age. Together\, we’ll reflect on what it means to recover a sense of sacred wonder in a world that can sometimes feel hurried\, distracted\, and disenchanted. \nWhether you have read every page\, skimmed a few chapters\, or are simply curious about the topic\, you are welcome to join the conversation. This group is for anyone who longs to reconnect with childlike wonder\, deepen their awareness of God’s presence\, and explore how faith can help us see the world with renewed imagination and hope. \nCome as you are. Bring your questions\, your curiosity\, and your openness to conversation. After all\, good discussion — like grace — has a way of showing up even when we feel a little unprepared. \nBooks are available wherever books are sold. Reading ahead is encouraged\, but not required.

SUMMARY:When TikTok Starts a Church Conversation
DESCRIPTION:“John Wesley did not have TikTok\, but he did believe conversation could be a means of grace.”\nSometimes a short video says out loud what many people have been quietly wondering.  Two recent TikTok posts from Hope with Holly have sparked conversation around faith and the questions people carry when belief\, life\, and pain intersect. \nWe are hosting a simple pop-up discussion evening to watch the videos together and talk about what they stir up in us.  This will not be a debate\, a lecture\, or a “right answer” session.  It will be a guided conversation rooted in curiosity\, kindness\, and listening. \nThe evening will be hosted by Pastor Joy\, Ron Mourad\, and Tammy Melvin.  Together\, we will create space to ask honest questions\, reflect on our own experiences\, and listen for wisdom from one another. \nWhether the videos resonate with you\, challenge you\, confuse you\, or simply make you curious\, you are welcome.  Come ready to listen.  Come ready to share\, only as much as you wish.  Come ready for conversation\, not correction. \n  \nPop-Up Discussion: When TikTok Starts a Church Conversation \nDate:  July 13\, 2026 \nTime:  6:30 – 8:00 pm \nLocation:  Room 207

SUMMARY:Trek for Vets Community Event
DESCRIPTION:Walk Together for a Greater Purpose: Trek For Vets Comes to Chelsea \nOn Friday\, May 22 at 5:30 PM\, our community will have the opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful as Trek For Vets\, a 1.4 mile walk\, passes through Chelsea. \nThis isn’t just a walk—it’s a journey of hope. \nTrek For Vets is a 500-mile walk across Michigan\, covering 20 miles a day for 25 days\, with a mission to raise awareness around veteran isolation\, homelessness\, and suicide. It’s a powerful reminder that the burdens people carry are often unseen—and that healing begins when people choose to walk alongside one another. \nAs the trek comes through Chelsea\, everyone is invited to join for a portion of the walk\, beginning at the M-52 Roundabout (near Robin Hills Farm / Mugg & Bopps) and continuing into downtown. Whether walking the full distance or simply showing up in support\, every step reflects a shared commitment to connection\, compassion\, and care. \nTo help make participation accessible for all\, W.A.V.E. will be providing shuttle transportation: \n\nTo the starting point (Robin Hills / Mugg & Bopps): departures from Palmer Commons at 5:00 PM\, 5:15 PM\, and 5:30 PM\nReturn trips after the event: departures from Palmer Commons at 7:00 PM and 7:15 PM\n\nThis allows everyone to park\, gather\, and participate in a way that works best for them. \nThis event is made possible through the partnership of Pro Allies and Chelsea First United Methodist Church\, alongside many local organizations and businesses who share a heart for this mission. Together with partners including Trek For Vets Coffee\, Chelsea Area Fire Authority\, Chelsea Police Department\, City of Chelsea\, Chelsea Senior Center\, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce\, Chelsea American Legion Post 31\, Washtenaw County Veteran Services\, Grass Lake VFW Post 10194\, Culver’s\, La Jolla Jewelers\, W.A.V.E.\, 5 Healthy Towns\, Stockbridge American Legion Post 510\, Polly’s Country Market\, Mugg & Bopps (Vogels)\, The Lake House Bakery\, Brian’s Service\, LLC\, CHS Varsity Football Team\, Robin Hills and Ursula Hoppe Photography\, this effort reflects the strength and compassion of a community coming together. \nFollowing the walk\, the community is invited to gather at Palmer Commons for a free cookout—a time to share a meal\, build relationships\, and learn more about the mission of Trek For Vets\, including their initiative to fund the journey through Trek For Vets Coffee\, symbolizing one case of coffee for every mile walked. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about Pro Allies (proallies.org)\, a program dedicated to supporting first responders\, veterans\, frontline workers\, and their families through connection\, care\, and practical resources. \nThis is who we are at our best: a community that shows up\, that walks together\, and that believes no one should face life’s challenges alone. \nAll are welcome. Come as you are. Walk as you’re able. Stand in support. \nTo volunteer and be part of this event\, please sign up here:\nhttps://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C48ADA629A57-63534798-trek \nYou can also call the church office to sign up.  734.475.8119 \nLet’s come together to take part in something that brings hope—one step at a time.

SUMMARY:Messy Church - Love Your Neighbor!
DESCRIPTION:Love Your Neighbor is based on the story in Luke 10: 25-37 known to many as “The Good Samaritan”. This story may be new. It is difficult to know if the religious expert who asked Jesus\,’ who is my neighbor’ was asking insincerity or if he was attempting to trick Jesus. No matter\, Jesus uses one of his favorite answers…he tells a story. The neighbor in this story is not the one who believes or talks in the same way as the injured man. The neighbor is the stranger who shows compassion and mercy. \n“Where people of all ages come together to share in music\, storytelling\, creative crafts\, and a delicious dinner.”
