SUMMARY:Trek for Vets Community Event
DESCRIPTION:Walk Together for a Greater Purpose: Trek For Vets Comes to Chelsea \nOn Friday\, May 22 at 5:30 PM\, our community will have the opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful as Trek For Vets\, a 1.4 mile walk\, passes through Chelsea. \nThis isn’t just a walk—it’s a journey of hope. \nTrek For Vets is a 500-mile walk across Michigan\, covering 20 miles a day for 25 days\, with a mission to raise awareness around veteran isolation\, homelessness\, and suicide. It’s a powerful reminder that the burdens people carry are often unseen—and that healing begins when people choose to walk alongside one another. \nAs the trek comes through Chelsea\, everyone is invited to join for a portion of the walk\, beginning at the M-52 Roundabout (near Robin Hills Farm / Mugg & Bopps) and continuing into downtown. Whether walking the full distance or simply showing up in support\, every step reflects a shared commitment to connection\, compassion\, and care. \nTo help make participation accessible for all\, W.A.V.E. will be providing shuttle transportation: \n\nTo the starting point (Robin Hills / Mugg & Bopps): departures from Palmer Commons at 5:00 PM\, 5:15 PM\, and 5:30 PM\nReturn trips after the event: departures from Palmer Commons at 7:00 PM and 7:15 PM\n\nThis allows everyone to park\, gather\, and participate in a way that works best for them. \nThis event is made possible through the partnership of Pro Allies and Chelsea First United Methodist Church\, alongside many local organizations and businesses who share a heart for this mission. Together with partners including Trek For Vets Coffee\, Chelsea Area Fire Authority\, Chelsea Police Department\, City of Chelsea\, Chelsea Senior Center\, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce\, Chelsea American Legion Post 31\, Washtenaw County Veteran Services\, Grass Lake VFW Post 10194\, Culver’s\, La Jolla Jewelers\, W.A.V.E.\, 5 Healthy Towns\, Stockbridge American Legion Post 510\, Polly’s Country Market\, Mugg & Bopps (Vogels)\, The Lake House Bakery\, Brian’s Service\, LLC\, CHS Varsity Football Team\, Robin Hills and Ursula Hoppe Photography\, this effort reflects the strength and compassion of a community coming together. \nFollowing the walk\, the community is invited to gather at Palmer Commons for a free cookout—a time to share a meal\, build relationships\, and learn more about the mission of Trek For Vets\, including their initiative to fund the journey through Trek For Vets Coffee\, symbolizing one case of coffee for every mile walked. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about Pro Allies (proallies.org)\, a program dedicated to supporting first responders\, veterans\, frontline workers\, and their families through connection\, care\, and practical resources. \nThis is who we are at our best: a community that shows up\, that walks together\, and that believes no one should face life’s challenges alone. \nAll are welcome. Come as you are. Walk as you’re able. Stand in support. \nTo volunteer and be part of this event\, please sign up here:\nhttps://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C48ADA629A57-63534798-trek \nYou can also call the church office to sign up.  734.475.8119 \nLet’s come together to take part in something that brings hope—one step at a time.

SUMMARY:Soup-er Supper Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:Redeeming Healthcare for Young People \nFor nearly 50 years\, the Corner Health Center has been a leading voice in providing compassionate\, whole-person healthcare for adolescents across the state. At a time when young people often fall through the cracks of an inequitable U.S. healthcare system\, the Corner continues to stand in the gap—offering not just medical care\, but dignity\, advocacy\, and hope. \nOn Sunday\, May 3 at 5:00pm\, as part of the Soup-er Speaker Series hosted monthly by the Social Justice Action Team\, Rev. Alex Plum\, the organization’s CEO\, will share the rich history of the Corner Health Center and highlight its current strategic priorities. Drawing on his background in public health and nonprofit administration\, Rev. Alex brings a unique and informed perspective to the work of transforming healthcare access for young people. \nAn ordained deacon serving in extension ministry at the Corner\, Rev. Alex embodies a calling that bridges faith and service. He lives in Detroit with his husband\, Jason\, and remains deeply committed to building a more just and compassionate healthcare system for all adolescents. \nThe presentation concludes with a soup and salad dinner and time for conversation. ALL are welcome!

SUMMARY:Fair Trade Coffee Sale
DESCRIPTION:Fair Trade Coffee sales will take place on April 12 between the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. worship services in the Social Hall. Proceeds from this sale will support an important mission connected to Michigan State University’s College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). \nWe are joining University United Methodist Church in East Lansing in supporting this program\, which helps first-generation college students from migrant and seasonal farmworker families succeed in college. Due to recent federal funding cuts\, this long-standing program is now in need of community support. \nWhen you purchase Fair Trade coffee\, the profits will go toward helping sustain this program and support these students. Even if coffee isn’t your thing\, you can still make a donation at the sales table to help us support this meaningful mission.

SUMMARY:Soup-er Sunday Speaker Series - House N2 Home
DESCRIPTION:Creating Homes Where Hope Grows \nWhat started in 2017 as a simple act of kindness—furnishing a home for a single mom and her children—has grown into a transformative community movement known as House N2 Home. Today\, this volunteer-driven nonprofit has fully furnished more than 1\,892 homes\, offering comfort and dignity to 3\,947 individuals\, including 1\,815 children and 240 veterans in our area. \nHouse N2 Home collects and donates everything from beds\, mattresses\, and couches to cleaning products\, kitchen essentials\, and wall art\, transforming empty apartments into warm\, welcoming homes for those transitioning out of homelessness and into stable housing. Their mission is simple yet profound: to create spaces where people can thrive. \nBehind this effort is a team of more than 200 dedicated volunteers\, working alongside over 50 local agencies to identify needs and deliver hope—one home at a time. \nYou’re invited to come and hear the powerful stories of this amazing organization and learn how lives are being changed—not just by furniture\, but by the love and community behind it. Whether you’re looking to volunteer\, donate\, or simply be inspired\, this is a story worth hearing. \nLet’s celebrate the work of House N2 Home and explore how we\, too\, can be part of creating homes where hope grows.  If you’re thinking about donating household items\, keep this organization at the top of your list. Click here for more information. \nPlease note: This special event will take place on Sunday\, March 29\, instead of April 5\, in order to accommodate Easter weekend. \nWe hope you’ll join us for this inspiring time of learning and connection!

SUMMARY:UMCOR Sunday
DESCRIPTION:UMCOR Sunday is one of six churchwide Special Sundays designated to support ministries and causes important to the entire United Methodist Church. On this day\, we support the United Methodist Committee on Relief—better known as UMCOR—the disaster response and humanitarian relief agency of our church. \nWhen people face crisis—whether from natural disaster\, conflict\, or hunger—UMCOR is there to help. But that kind of response doesn’t just happen. It requires trained staff\, reliable systems\, and the ability to act quickly and compassionately. \nUMCOR Sunday matters because it sustains that foundation. By covering UMCOR’s administrative costs\, this Special Sunday makes sure the Church is equipped to respond whenever and wherever help is needed—without delay. \nWhen we support UMCOR Sunday\, we’re not just reacting to emergencies. We’re making it possible for the Church to be a consistent\, trusted presence in moments of urgent need. \nYou can give by check (write UMCOR Sunday in the memo line) and mail to the church or online at UMCOR Sunday.
