The Chelsea First UMC Intergenerational Orchestra

Will provide music for the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, May 22.  The group last performed in November of 2019 and was preparing to play at Easter Services in 2020 when the pandemic caused all to shut down.  The orchestra is comprised of volunteers aged sixth grade and up and will be playing the Prelude, Postlude, a Special Music selection, and also accompanying the hymns for the day.  MAYBE YOU could be a member of this group–by contacting leader Max Plank through the Church’s office manager. The group will rehearse at 10 a.m. on Sunday the 22.

We need volunteers to help lead summer CONNECT! It will run on Sundays from May 29 – August 21. No preparation is required. Just come to class with us. During summer there is 1 service at 10 am. Summer CONNECT ends when worship ends, at about 11 am.

This is a great opportunity to participate in the children’s ministry if other commitments make that hard for you to do during the school year. This is also a great opportunity to “try out” what being a CONNECT leader might feel like if you have ever considered volunteering for the children’s ministry but were unsure of making a year-long commitment.

Please look at your calendars and consider supporting our children’s programming this summer! If you have questions, contact Susan Adam-Rita – Director of Children’s Ministry https://chelseaumc.org/contact/#Susan_Adam-Rita_Director_of_Children_Ministry See the signup genius to sign up. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c48ada629a57-summer

The Material Girls crafting group meets on the second Tuesday of each month from January through November. Any woman 16 years and older are invited to participate. Please contact Chris Frayer through the Church office manager if you are interested in attending.

New Name!!!  Sunday Dinner Out is an opportunity for the adults at Chelsea First UMC to get together for dinner once a month to get to know each other better and catch up with old friends.  The dinner in May will be on Sunday, May 22 at 5:30 pm.  The restaurant will be Chinese Tonight, though they are only open for take-out on Sunday evenings. So, we will eat our chinese food at the Steklacs at 618 Grant Street, Chelsea (next door to South Meadows School). Please let Teresa Steklac know what you would like to order . To do so, please contact the church office for Teresa’s contact information.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

Most suicidal young people do not tell an adult. Here are the warning signs to look for in young people:

Change in interaction with family and friends

Recent disappointment or rejection

Sudden decline or improvement in academic performance

Eating disturbances, changes in sleep patterns, chronic headaches, or stomach problems

Increased apathy

Being expelled from school or fired from a job

Family problems/alienation

Feeling embarrassed or humiliated in front of peers

Victim of assault or bullying

Learn the three steps to help prevent suicide. Be empowered to make a positive difference in the life of someone you know! QPR training is clear, concise (1 hour online), and right now being offered free to our community. Here is the link to begin: https://qprtraining.com/setup.php, then follow the instructions below.

Summer Mission Trip
Save the Date

The Chelsea First mission trip is coming up on June 16 -19. We will be visiting “God’s Country Cooperative Parish” in the upper peninsula to help with home repairs for those living in poverty. With the shortage of materials and the rising cost of lumber, our assistance is needed more than ever.

Starting Easter Sunday, you have the opportunity to donate for the purchase of construction materials that we will take to support mission teams throughout the summer.  A “Mission Tree” with tags of what your donation will purchase is available in the social hall after each service or during the week

Church Camping Trip – August 19 – 21, 2022

We have some reserved spots left that are connected sites at Greenwood Acres Family Campground in Jackson, Michigan. $90 per family. This camp is located on 300 acres in a wooded setting featuring a mile of frontage on Goose Lake, a sandy beach to relax on, and plenty of fishing. There is an Olympic size swimming pool, free 9-hole golf course, mini-golf, playgrounds, jumping pillow, shuffleboard, tennis, basketball courts, children’s arts and craft classes, children and youth coordinated athletics, horseshoes; and an old retired military tank to explore! Also, every Saturday evening there is a live band that performs. The sites all have water and electric hookups with modern bathrooms onsite. Your RV, trailer, and tents are welcome and are allowed an additional tent per site if pre-registered. Space is limited so it is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

They are located at 2401 Hilton Rd, Jackson, MI seven miles east of Jackson. When on I-94 westbound, take exit 147, or if eastbound, take exit 145. To reserve and pay for your sight please contact Greenwood Acres directly at (517) 522-8600 and pick from a site already registered under Chelsea UMC. Let’s come together in fellowship and have some fun!

Please fill out the Google Form if you are interested https://forms.gle/EEiKUA3ZqxjdcwxK6. If you are attending you need to be signed up by July 25.
